UDAYAN works with children in the 7-18 yrs age group. With a vision of regenerating the rhythm of life of the disadvantaged, they seek a home and education for every child and dignity of self reliance and the desire to serve society for adults. They are involved in restoring child rights in a holistic manner and run programs related to children and communities. The flagship program - Udayan Ghar - is a children’s home running with group foster care model, where education, vocational training & recreation are regular activities.
MAITRI works with children in the 5-15 yrs age group. Their philosohy is committed towards empowering women and children from economically challenged communities with life skills, education and health. Various projects are run with the aim of education and awareness on STIs, HIV, AIDS, TB and Hepatitus, Impact of substance abuse on lifestyle & health. Informal Education covering basic lanaguages, subjects and workshops on music, dance, drama, etc engage children during their spare time.
Adharshila works with children in the 4-21 yrs age group. The philosophy is to build foundations for strong and self-reliant communities at the grassroots level and help them stand on their own feet. They operate from a community shiksha Kendra in the heart of the slum and are involved in vocational training courses in computers, nutrition, beauty & healthcare and stitching & tailoring. They also conduct remedial classes for the slum children and an Adult Literacy program.
SNS works with children in the 5-18 yrs age group. Their philosophy is to cherish life and demonstrate this through implementing programmes for the marginallised which are also best practices for others in the region - corporates, institutions, civil societies and individuals. They are involved in methods and approaches that penetrate pockets in urban & rual areas that are under served in education, employability skills transfer, sustainable livelihood generation and access to health care.
Prayas works with children in the 6-14 yrs of age group are for the alternate education and 14 to 25-30 are for the vocational studies. Prayas believe that every child has needs and thereby has the rights to adequate food, building their capacity for self-help and affirming the dignity and worth of all. Their major activities are rescue, repatriation, councelling, relocation of the children coming from difficult circumstances, providing alternative education, creating fund raising programmes and many vocational courses.
Deepalaya's vision is a society based on legitimate rights, equity, justice, honesty, social sensitivity and a culture of services, in which all are self-reliant. They work along the economically and socially deprived, the physically and mentally challenged, starting with children so that they become educated, skilled and aware, enabling them to be self reliant and enjoy a healthy, dignified and sustainable quality of life. This is achieved by aiming at durable change in attitudes and behavior leading to social transformation using a participatory processes.
SAKSHI has been working with the underprivileged children of all age groups. They envision to open the doors of Primary Education for “unreached children-those who do not have an access to basic education”, a step towards holistic development even while living in slums. SAKSHI has done pioneering work in the field of teaching and training of ‘Value- Based Education’. Butterflies works with street and working children. They believe in the right of every child to have a full-fledged childhood with the right to protection, respect, opportunities and participation. Butterflies is committed to a non-institutional approach, follows principle of democracy and promotes children’s participation in decision making as part of its programme planning, monitoring and evaluation. Their main aim is to empower street and working children with skills and knowledge to protect their rights and to develop them as respected and productive citizens.

Sewa Bharti has several programs for children ranging from Balwadi setups to primary and residential schools. Arunodhaya centre for street and working children, a social service organization committed to promotion of the rights of the children has been striving since 1992 to make right to education a reality in the lives of child labourers and street children. Through various education interventions such as Child labourers centres, Guided Learning Centres, Study circles, Reading class programme and Early Childhood care centres Arunodhaya has reached out to more than 6000 children in slums of Chennai enabling them to continue their education.
CIOSA- Confederation of Indian Organizations for Service and Advocacy was initiated to serve as a facilitative platform for NGOs, companies and individuals for mutual learning, sharing and the collective espousal of social causes. Establised in the year 2004 the network today has more than 200 NGOs, 230 Individuals and 11 corporates as members. Some services that CIOSA offers to NGOs at subsidized costs include, proposal writing, documentation, designing, management consultation and media relationships.
BHUMI is a non-profit youth volunteer organisation of students and young professionals providing supplementary education for underprivileged children at orphanages and community centres in and around Chennai. Members of this vibrant group, all of whom are under 30 teach Computers, English, Maths and Science and provide career counselling, volunteering just 2 hours every weekend. Bhumi's environmental initiatives highlight this group's awareness to take immediate action against climate change.
Bangalore
BOSCO is an acronym for "Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota" which means - "The association of those who serve youngsters on the streets of Bangalore". In 1980, five students of theology from Kristu Jyothi College, Bangalore first made contact and reached out to the neglected children and youth on the streets of Bangalore. The project has grown to five centres in the city and reaches out to an average of 3500 young at risk on the streets of Bangalore every year.
Baduku(verb meaning "Live" in Kannada) is a Karnataka based development organization started in 2003 by a group of professional social workers. This organization seeks to eradicate child labour, empower women and youth, and hence ensure better standard of living for the poor.
Hippocampus Reading Foundation (HRF) was set up in 2003 to promote libraries that can be accessed by the lesser privileged children. They began partnering with NGOs to promote the use of libraries in government schools and community centres. HRF runs a comprehensive library programme called Grow By Reading in 70 schools and community centres in Bangalore and Hosur.
“Youth for Seva”(YFS) was formed in April 2007 to help youth with an intention to volunteer and with different time commitments to easily find meaningful opportunities to serve the community. The mission of YFS is to inspire youth to volunteer, connect them to the grass roots projects, and provide ongoing support and training to the volunteers and the NGOs. Youth for Seva is a project of the ‘Hindu Seva Pratishthana.’, which has been in the forefront of social service for nearly three decades.
Akshara is a part of the Pratham Education Initiative and has replicated Pratham’s approach of comprehensive, scalable, replicable and cost-effective education solutions. Akshara works in Bangalore, North Karnataka and will soon expand its work to reach the entire state of Karnataka through its close partnership with the Education Department of the Government of Karnataka and the different school administrations. To date, Akshara has impacted over 3,50,000 children in and around the state of Karnataka through its programmes
Founded eight years ago by Ramji Raghavan, a former banker, Agastya hopes to transform education in India through a scalable and interactive education model. Running counter to the rote and repeat style of learning found in most Indian schools, Agastya’s model encourages discovery, curiosity and experimentation by providing hands on modules that help explain everyday phenomena in simple terms.
Oasis began its work in India 12 years ago. Street children, victims of child labour, rag pickers, women trapped in prostitution, women and children traumatised by HIV/AIDS, unemployed young people and urban slum communities are the focus groups. These individuals and families victimised by poverty are empowered through education, healthcare, residential care, vocation training, job skills, life skills and advocacy. The work in the cities of Mumbai and Bangalore has resulted in empowering individual lives and creating potential for entire communities to be transformed.

Jaipur
SIDART is active in both urban and rural areas of Rajasthan state. SIDART has had the largest presence in the urban slums of Jaipur. The main areas of action have been; sensitization, awareness generation, seminars on women empowerment, environment conservation, Non Formal Education for child laborers, establishment of development centers, community mobilization for developmental activities, early childhood and geriatric care, rural development and rural health.
Vihaan works for child development and education, the main focus being Early Childhood Care and Development. This mission is followed through be providing early stimulation, care and learning experiences for overall development. Major thrust areas include Innovative Chaild Development Programs, Health Care programs and special programs for children in difficult circumstances.
Faith works with children in the 2-12 yrs age group affected with the HIV/ AIDS. Largely working with orphaned, abandoned or single parent children, they also keep track through follow ups & support for reintegrated children. Their primary focus id providing care, support and counseling to the children and garnering society support in preventing stigma and discrimination. They also provide education and basic healthcare and encourage cultural and recreational activities.
Vatsalya's vision is Transformation of Social & Economic Liabilities into Social & Economic Assets. At present the following programs for street children are run, Udayan - Residential Care Program; Medhaavi - Scholastic support; Samvedna - Health care; Upaarjan - Vocational Training for poor children; Parivaar - Repatriation and Foster Care; Jagriti - Vatsalya’s awareness generation program.
VANI is a pioneer organization working for social development and awareness in different areas of Rajasthan and is doing rights oriented programs on issues like child labour, women empowerment, health and fluoride. The main aim of the organization is to develop the capacity of schedule cast , tribe, small farmers, landless poor women and children in such a way that they are able to work in a self sufficient and effective way , thereby protecting their long term interest so that they are self sufficient.

SAMVEDANA is a nonprofit organization working for the integrated development of slums with a focus on education and health of socially and economically deprived children. It is committed to giving meaning and purpose to the life of the underprivileged children by providing them quality education through the School run by them.
Yuva Unstoppable is a volunteer movement in 9 cities with over 3500 members who are helping 80 NGOs. They give the youth an opportunity to volunteer for 2 hours/week and inspire them to do random acts of kindness. They provide educated young manpower to NGOs ranging from orphanages, handicapped children homes, to municipality schools. Yuva-ites help with education, hygiene and extra-curricular activities. They also do acts to collect smiles such as Free Hugs campaign, buy ice-cream for policemen, help the servant with his dishes, etc.
Calorx Foundation is a non-profit, professionally managed, self sustaining, and autonomous institution with excellence in K-12 education.Calorx Foundation was a culmination of a dream. A dream to create a school environment that encompassed the tenets of quality, innovation and service to society. We were determined to venture into uncharted areas. The gamble has paid off as is evident from the inexorable growth of our various projects in Gujarat, India.
CEE has inherited the rich multi-disciplinary resource base and varied experience of Nehru Foundation for Development, its parent organisation, which has been promoting educational efforts since 1966 in the areas of science, nature study, health, development, and environment. At the time it began its activities, CEE was perhaps the only organization actively engaged in environmental education in the country. While carrying out programmes in different parts of the country, it was located only at Ahmedabad. Within five years of activities, it was realized that for a country as vast as India and its diversity, physical presence was important for effective implementation. Based on this, the first regional office was opened for the Southern region in 1988-89. Since then it has been a conscious effort to have an office or presence in the geographical area of work.
SEWA is both an organization and a movement. The SEWA movement is enhanced by its being a sangam or confluence of three movements : the labour movement, the cooperative movement and the women’s movement. But it is also a movement of self-employed workers : their own, home-grown movement with women as the leaders. SEWA’s main goals are to organise women workers for full employment. Full employment means employment whereby workers obtain work security, income security, food security and social security (at least health care, child care - education and shelter).
