Ques: I applied for Teach India last year but did not receive a reply/acknowledgement from you? Ans : Last year we received an unprecedented number of applications from volunteers. While we knew all along that this country had quite a few selfless individuals willing to walk that extra mile: nothing could have prepared us for the overwhelming response that actually greeted our call. We tried our best to place volunteers by partnering with more and more esteemed NGOs and increasing our capacity intake but we hope you realize that NGOs required a limited number of volunteers. However in case you did not receive a reply from us we request you to apply again to Teach India this year with its improved process.
Ques: How do I apply to be a Teach India volunteer on the website? Ans : You need to register onto the website to fill in the volunteer application form. Once you confirm your registration you can click on 'Volunteer Application Form' and fill out the form. You need to fill in all mandatory fields required and click on submit at the bottom of the form. One registered user can fill in the volunteer application form only once. So in case your relative/friend wants to apply him/she would have to register afresh and fill in the application form, he/she cannot use your username and password.
Ques: Do I need to attend the induction session to become a volunteer?/ What will happen at the induction? Ans : It is a must to attend the induction session at the centre selected by you in the volunteer application form. During this session you will get an opportunity to sit across the table with NGOs in your selected area and understand where you can teach. The NGO will guide and select you on the spot. Your teaching can start thereafter as per your discussion with the NGO. The NGOs in your session will be called keeping in the mind the area where you prefer to teach.
Ques: How long will my Teaching commitment last? Ans : Your teaching commitment duration will last for at least 3 months. You may decide to continue teaching with the NGO for a longer period also if you so desire.
Ques: What kind of education will I be providing? Ans : Teach India will place you in programmes where you can support the efforts of the NGO by teaching easy and very basic topics that are mostly taught to children at a primary school level. The teaching would be either one-on-one or to a small group of children. Besides this you can also talk to the NGO on the special skills you would like to share with the children. The NGO will finally decide what you will be teaching, taking all the above into consideration.
Ques: Will I be eligible for a certificate? Ans : We will hand over the certificate to all our partner NGOs. The NGO where you are teaching will give you your certificate after you complete three months of teaching there.
Ques: Can I change my Induction location? Ans : It is preferred that you stick to the induction location, time and day you had chosen in the first place. However if you need to change this you would be required to register with a different email id and fill out the volunteer application form with your desired induction preference day, time and centre.
Ques: I was unable to attend the induction, how do I become a volunteer now? Ans : If you were unable to attend the induction you will have to apply again next year for Teach India. The induction dates are sacrosanct for each city.
Ques: My desired location/session is not covered in the form? Ans : We have tried to cover all possible locations. However in the case of your location not being available, please choose an alternative location closest to your preferred location.
Ques: Applications have closed for my location/session? Ans : In the case of applications being over for a session please choose a different session. If applications have closed for a particular induction centre you may choose an alternative centre closest to your earlier preferred location.
Ques: Your applications have closed. How else can I apply? Ans : You will have to wait for the Teach India initiative to happen next year to apply. However we do encourage you to contact NGOs directly and find out how best you can contribute as a volunteer.
Ques: Teach India is not in my city, how do I volunteer? Ans : We at Teach India will try our best to bring this initiative to as many cities possible. We will open applications for other cities also. However we do encourage you to contact NGOs in your city directly and find out how best you can contribute as a volunteer.
Ques: Which all cities is the Teach India initiative present in? Ans : Currently Teach India has been launched in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore . We will also cover Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad in the coming weeks.
Ques: Will my induction centre be my final teaching area? Ans : Your induction centre will not be your final teaching area. This is just to facilitate your interaction with the NGOs in your area. Your teaching area will be close to your preffered teaching zone.
